A Family Tradition

Mandatory Family Activities. That is what my father has created as a way for my family to spend time together in the rare occasion that we are all home.

With two kids in college, and one in high school, my father has come up with activities that my whole family can participate in. From raking leaves, running in 5k races, or going on family vacations, MFAs have become anything that involves family. Whether we like it or not, if my dad makes it an MFA, we attend.

One of my more fond memories of this new tradition, was my family trip to Key West, FL. I remember reading an e-mail with the subject line MFA. Anytime that I receive something with those three letters, I don't know what I am getting myself into. After opening this particular e-mail, I was shocked to read about our next family event.

Having started in 2011 at a turkey trot in Washington D.C. the 5k races have become a family activity that I have come to enjoy. Although getting up early on Thanksgiving morning is not ideal, being able to spend time with my siblings is something that has become more meaningful to me as I have gotten older.
